About US

Who are we?

The origins of GVVA go back to 1985 when several veterans  began to meet on a monthly basis.  It was not long before they discovered that not only did they have a social club, but that not all veterans were coping in the mainstream of the community.  They started helping those less fortunate and soon the need out-paced their resources.  Our fund-raising efforts grew out of the need to help others and that is what we continue to do today.

Emergency Aid Program

The bulk of the resources go to assisting veterans who are in transition due to unemployment or disabilities.  Others come to us from the VA system and are sent to us by social workers at the Department of Veterans Affairs.  We provide a safety net until they get back on their feet.  Veterans must provide proof of service and be honorably discharged.  Assistance is provided on a case by case basis after a personal interview.  GVVA meets with veterans weekly.  Officers from the Department of Labor come to our office and help with employments.

Tuition Assistance

GVVA offers financial assistance to veterans and their immediately family members on a competitive basis.
