Chapter One

"The Sitrep"

March, 2007
In service to veterans, their families, and community.

Presidents Message…

Here we are, March 2007.  It’s time for our membership to elect a new governing body for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.  We also have a need for several positions on the Board of Directors.  I don’t know about you, but I know that we need help at the Chapter Level.  Have you noticed how it always seems to be the same people showing up to help at our special events i.e. Parades, etc.  We are a service organization and need your help.  We need YOU

We have an immediate need for a Membership Chairman.  John Dudley our current chairman must give this position up due to medical reasons.  John has done an excellent job in bringing our membership roster to a current and accurate status.  He will be available to assist anyone accepting this position.  We all owe John a debt of gratitude and a big “Thank You” for a job well done.  We also need someone to back up Lou with the Newsletter.  Lou was in the hospital last month and couldn’t get it published.  Bob Humphries stepped in and saved the day.

(Thanks a million Bob).  Ain’t it great when soldiers back each other up and lend a hand when needed.

So, how about putting your name in the hat for any of the above positions!!!!

REMEMBER-------THIS IS “YOUR” ORGANIZATION------IT’S ONLY AS GOOD AS THE MEMBERSHIP MAKES IT.

***GET WITH LOU FOR YOUR E-MAIL COPY OF THE NEWSLETTER***

Vice Presidents Message…

“Pop Smoke”

This month we will be selecting a slate of Board Members and Officers that will be voted on during our April Meeting. Give it some thought, we need to continue the success that Chapter One has enjoyed. Please make it a point to attend our March and April meetings. Your vote counts.

The chapter continues to receive dues for 2007. Many have signed up as Life Members this year. If you haven’t paid your dues yet, please mail them to the P.O. Box or pay Jack Moses at this months meeting.

We have a large number of you that receive this news letter but do not make our monthly meetings. When you attend a meeting, you will find some great friendships and some relationships that you will not find elsewhere. If you have “been there done that” you’ll understand.

Our State Office in Doraville has been a great support to Chapter One and veterans alike. Marvin Myers, our State President, is doing a magnificent job supporting our efforts and The Atlanta Veterans Day Parade. If it is veteran related, you can count on Marvin being involved. It’s a good feeling to know people like Marvin, next time you see him thank him for ALL that he has done.

Remember all of our troops that are deployed all around the world. They are there, doing what they do, so that we can enjoy the freedom that our country enjoys and cherishes. May our elected officials understand what’s at stake.

  A fortune to remember

Ramblings of a Retired Mind   - some thoughts.

You know, I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway.

I know! When people see a cat's litter box, they always say, "Oh, have you got a cat?"   Just once I want to say, "No, it's for company!"

And I really can't understand how I got over the hill without ever getting to the top.

I was thinking that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans!

I thought about making a fitness movie for folks my age, and call it "Pumping Rust."

Smile for the camera

The picture shows that this soldier has been thru Survival School and learned his lessons well.  He's giving the sign of "coercion" with his left hand. These hand signs are taught in survival school to be used by POW's as a method of posing messages back to our intelligence services who may view the photo or video. This guy was obviously being coerced into shaking hands with Hilary Clinton. It's ironic how little she knew that he would so inform us about the photo - - - perhaps because she's never understood our military to begin with.
