ACTIVITIES AT THE VA Medical CenterJust a few words to update you in July 2009. I attended the groundbreaking for the new Patient Breezeway that will connect the VA Medical Center on Clairmont and the VA Regional Office on June 19. This has been a project long in the works. To veterans it will mean you can walk in an enclosed long hall between the two buildings without going up the hill or enduring the elements.
While at the Ceremony we were informed by Medical Center Director Jim Clark that they will begin construction of an addition to the parking deck in back of the hospital in August. That will add about 350 spaces plus. By next year they will build another deck in front of the Center to park 1100 cars. This should take care of the overcrowding of parking.
Commissar Wheeler has also met with the Region 7 Director Biro and Jim Clark about a second hospital on the West Side. They have apparently identified a facility. The Commissioner has already met with the VA Director General Eric Shenseki and asked for help with this. Both Director Biro and Director Clark seem to be in favor.
